Fluxbox Changes – New Authors

Evening all… time for a slightly delayed update..

This blog has, for the last 2 years been the personal space of myself, Aaron Smith, a place for me to ramble, scream and generally just waffle on about any casual random thought that found itself between my ears with nowhere else to go. Well this has has now changed, fluxbox is now and shall from this point on be a group driven blog, still owned and moderated by myself, but is now adding additional authors to the mix.

There are two main reasons for this decision, first and foremost i suppose is my slow but steady decline in posts, mostly due to my increasing time depands within the real world, being a graduate it seems carries with it a certain responsibility to contribute to the national wealth and stop sponging off it, who new ! hehe… well, time I started doing something about that, hence my ‘step-up’ in job hunting and recent move to the southwest in search of a dream position working with the IT industry (alas its kinda quiet atm, love this economy hehe)…

Secondly is my long running interest in getting more people involved with this site, and never really getting round to it. The Internet has now and for some time been a shouting board for every random person who has the intelligence to use it, my ramblings not withstanding iv always wanted to get some friends in on this site, to share in my insanity with the world, and share their achievements, disappointments and insane ideas, thoughts and feelings lol ! So, I now take this opportunity to formally introduce Shaun Adams, a fellow graduate from the university of Plymouth who had the good sense to apply for jobs before the economy ran away to hide in a corner hehe ! You can find a little more about him from his personal page in the ‘About Us’ section of this site.

Im hoping to grow on this list of authors over the next few months with some fellow friends, who have all tried to run their own blogs, but run up against the same problems with time (to look after it, an update it) as me. If anyone wishes to become an author for Fluxbox UK, please contact me via the ‘Contact Us’ page and ill get back to you as soon as i can :)

Another Job… Another Bust !

My hopes and dreams for a job with a monthly wage packet have been dashed again, beginning to think that the whole checking email is a bad idea, all i get is bad news and Viagra adverts lol !

Nothing is more depressing than finding 5 years at uni counts for virtually squat when compared to a whole country of unemployed IT workers, who are all sitting on more experience within the industry than you.

Nothing to do now but hit the job sites again, and start drafting my latest cover letter for CV applications lol !

P.S if anyone knows any well paid jobs where the employer actually sticks to his statement of ‘yea, we love graduates over experience due to our ability to mold them’ then please let me know, cus frankly im getting a little sick of the politically correct way to lead a graduate to the door !

Woolworths may live on..! Online only

Woolworths has been given the kiss of life as an online-only store after Shop Direct bought the now defunct UK High Street retailer’s brand name.

Financial terms of the deal were kept secret by the David and Frederick Barclay-owned company, which is Blighty’s biggest home shopping dealer and operates under well-known brands such as Littlewoods and Kays.

“Woolworths is a much-loved brand that engenders huge affection among British consumers and is an important part of the country’s retail heritage,” said Shop Direct CEO Mark Newton-Jones.

“In what will be Woolworths’ 100th year, we are proud to be reviving the brand for future generations.”

Woolies went into administration in November last year when it shuttered more than 800 stores, with the loss of around 27,000 jobs across the UK after it failed to secure a buyer in time.

Shop Direct said it planned to launch the Woolworths online store this summer, and Woolies’ clothing label Ladybird will also be resurrected on the interwebs, it added. ®

First Snow in Years

I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw actual snow settle around the area where I live, it seemed to happen every single year when I was a kid, regularly remember getting the sled out and going up the park and building snow men in the back garden… There was even one year where the snow was so deep outside the front door that we actually lost our Jack Russell dog for a few minutes while he tunnelled his way back to the sound of our voices!

Well, global warming or not, it’s been an interesting evening for nostalgic Fluxbox lol, and to celebrate this momentous occasion, I regressed to my youth and built Bob!
