Aaron Smith

Technical Lead in Exeter, United Kingdom

With over 15 years in the IT sector, I have fostered innovation and collaboration within the organisations I've served. Since joining the Met Office in 2009, I have held various roles, culminating in my current position as Technical Lead in the Digital Workplace team. My expertise in Windows Active Directory management, spanning Server 2003 to 2022, has established me as a specialist in Active Directory and Microsoft 365 Services.

A notable aspect of my role has been in the realm of Remote Access Technologies. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, I implemented DirectAccess across the organisation. As the pandemic unfolded, I adeptly managed and maintained this infrastructure, ensuring seamless connectivity for over 3000 staff working remotely, a critical initiative that underscored our commitment to leveraging technology to maintain productivity during global adversity. This was further augmented by a successful migration to Always On VPN, enhancing network security and reliability.

Additionally, I excel in managing M365 and hybrid setups in Exchange, coupled with a deep understanding of Desktop Management and compliance, honed through extensive experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager and inTune.

As I forge ahead, my focus is on leveraging my expertise to further enhance the Met Office's technological landscape, nurturing innovation and efficiency, and mentoring the next generation of IT professionals.

In conclusion, I am poised to continue contributing to the Met Office's legacy of excellence, steering it towards a future marked by innovation and heightened productivity.
